Getting started
The best place to start using the University LMS (BB Learn) is in a private 'playground' site. The playground site is based on a UoS default template. You can experiment with using the University LMS (BB Learn) in your playground by adding and deleting tools. You can personalise the appearance of your UoS site. This will enable you to become familiar with possibilities before modifying your Unit of Study site. Only people who you have given access to can see your playground.
Training
Free Workshops are run regularly by the Sydney eLearning team at Camperdown and Cumberland campuses. All staff members are invited to complete a short 2 hour workshop that provides an introduction to the University LMS (BB Learn). Please register at the above link.
Getting a playground
When you attend the Introductory or Upskilling workshops you will be given an University LMS (BB Learn) playground, and access to SEAMS.
SEAMS access
When you feel ready to develop your Unit of Study site, you will need to contact the Sydney eLearning Helpdesk to organise your access to SEAMS (Sydney eLearning Account Management System). Access to SEAMS lets you can create your own UoS websites using a simple online form. Attendance at a workshop will also give you access to SEAMS.
Making UoS sites with SEAMS
New University LMS (BB Learn) sites are generated automatically using an online interface (SEAMS) that allows you to choose what your new University LMS (BB Learn) site will contain. Most University LMS (BB Learn) sites are based on a default template. If you are new to site creation you will begin with the default template and then customise your site and add material relevant to your unit of study. Once you have created one or more sites you will be able to use any of these as a template for a new version.
Create a UoS site from the default template
The default template comes with a standardised setup, such as an example Unit of Study Outline, Discussions, links to Student Resources and a copyright notice. You can modify these and add extra tools. The copyright notice and contact details for the University's eLearning Helpdesk and ICT must remain on the Homepage.
Choose 'default' as the Template setting in SEAMS.
Create a new UoS site from your own UoS / playground site
You can create a new site that is a copy of one of your existing sites. This will reduce the development time as your new site will have the same tools and appearance as the copied site. To do this, you will need to select the site you wish to copy as the template for the new site under 'Request a Site' in SEAMS.
Choose 'my current sites' as the Template setting in SEAMS. You will see a drop-down list of ALL the eLearning sites you have had access to over the last 2 years. Choose the UoS/eLearning site upon which you wish to base your new site. The site will be created with the same content and settings, but no student data from the previous semester.
New UoS site from another coordinator's UoS site
If you inherit a site from the previous course coordinator, the Sydney eLearning team will need an email from the original unit coordinator or the HOD (Head of Department) authorising them to create the site for you based on the original site. Alternatively, the primary designer or instructor in the site can give you access by adding you to that University LMS (BB Learn) site through SEAMS.
