Administering your site

Below is a checklist of interactive tools that you can use to manage teaching online in your UoS site:

Check the student list
To see students enrolled in your site click on the GradeCentre in the blue control panel in the left-hand side of the screen. You will see a list of students in your website. Make sure the page is showing ALL of your students by clicking 'ALL' in the bottom right hand section of the screen.

Add lecture and tutorial material
Upload PDF and Word documents into the content pages of your site using the 'Build Content' >>File button. You can continue to add files throughout the semester. You can also add streamed or recorded lectures for your students via the Add Interactive Tool button, and choosing the 'Lectopia Link' option from the dropdown. If you wish to add a short message or html page to your UoS site use the 'Build Content' button, and choose the 'Item' option from dropdown menu.

Moderate discussions
Discussion threads will be carried over from the previous year. Depending on the purpose of your discussion topics, you may be to change these, or update them for the new year. You can use 'Adaptive release' on your discussion threads to stagger their release to students throughout the semester.

Setting up large class tests and quizzes
If you have a large class and you have set a test, you may wish to advise Helpdesk of the date and time of the test. Helpdesk will then be ready to assist students if they experience any access problems. We can also advise on any potential problems your students might experience with different browsers. We can provide a hints on the best practice settings for your online test.

Marking Assignments and Tests
Mark any assignments or tests with short answer or paragraph questions using the 'Needs Marking' view in the GradeCentre or download a zip file of the assignments through the GradeCentre column. You will need to add the students’ grades manually or upload the marks through an Excel .csv file.

Using MyGrades
You can show or hide Grades to your students by using the 'Show to Users' functionality in the GradeCentre. You can use release grades to students by adding the MyGradestool to the left-hand menu, and show statistics for the test.
