Dr Ivan Zavada, Senior Lecturer in Composition & Music Technology. As a composer and digital media designer his interest lies in the dynamic relationship between sound and visuals. A specialist in electroacoustic music with a background in computer technology and engineering, Ivan combines his theoretical skills with an inspiring and progressive approach to teaching and pedagogy, encouraging students to explore new ways of problem solving through AI, creativity and innovation.

With the help of New Colombo Plan student mobility grant from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade he led a project around the sounds of sustainability – recording underwater sounds from complex urban canal systems to natural waterfalls in Southeast Asia.

The audiovisual material captured during such expeditions are then transformed for immersive events with sophisticated techniques to express artistic individuality in the digital era. His collaborative work with AMP Capital called Sounds of Sustainability was premiered in Sydney in 2019 and is a unique example of the exciting potential for new mediums of creative expression. This visual music performance is based on a blending approach of traditional and urban connotations.

Ivan’s work questions the conceptual nature of music by examining the relationship between concrete sounds on a fixed recorded medium and visual elements rendered in computer graphics, and more recently through software development using AI. This makes digital music composition particularly interesting and significant in this new era of digital transformation and environmental sustainability. Originally from Montréal, Québec, Canada, Ivan Zavada moved to Sydney in 2004 to establish himself as a composer and lecturer at the Sydney Conservatorium.

Josh Davey is a composer, producer and multidisciplinary artist from Eora whose work transcends boundaries of discipline, genre and style. Josh was exposed to music from childhood, training as a percussionist throughout primary and secondary school, before shifting their specialisation to electronic music composition and performance when commencing a degree in Digital Music and Media in 2024.

Internet-based music communities are Josh’s primary source of inspiration; as a frequent explorer of underground online subcultures, particularly orbiting around experimental derivatives of rap, industrial, and electronic music, Josh’s works usually contain uncanny, off-kilter samples, references or production techniques to distort the listener’s expectations.

Josh has been releasing and performing music under the artist pseudonym ‘sleepr’ since 2022, producing, recording and writing a distinctly experimental blend of underground rap, hyperpop and indietronica, as well as drawing inspiration from their professional music training and studies in digital production techniques to further distinguish their signature sound. Josh has currently independently released a total of 2 albums, 3 mixtapes, 2 records in collaboration with their collective ‘InMortality’, and a large collection of EPs, singles, and archived mixtapes under the artist ‘sleepr’.

San Fransisco born, now Sydney based artist Alexander Benson, "BENSONN", is an emerging dynamic and transformative Musician, Composer, Music Producer and DJ. As a drummer, and a background within Jazz and Contemporary Music Practice, BENSONN draws upon the complexity and emotional depth from the dynamic interplay of rhythm and movement within his tracks. In pursuit of harmony between his past experiences and progressive inspirations, BENSONN is an artist who invites the listener to connect with curiosity, distinction and connectivity.

Moreover, BENSONN has also been able to record his band at Sony Music Studios Sydney, after back to back wins of a battle of the bands competition in 2021 & 2022. Accompanied, his High Schools' Premier Big Band & Jazz Combo also placed 1st at the Sydney Eisteddfod in 2021 & 2022. Involved within Sydneys underground club music scene, he has DJ'd at Sydney's most notable night clubs such as Club 77, Chinese Laundry & the Flinders Hotel. His recent original Dance, UKG inspired release, "Astral Projection" was most recently signed with a Canadian based Label, 'LVLD Music', available to stream across all services. Additionally, his innovative, and experimental composition "SkyScrapers", has been selected as one of four pivotal tracks that will be displayed and interacted with, amongst the new campus expansion of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, into Parramatta.

Contrastingly, within his musical roots of Jazz, Fusion and Soul, BENSONNs' sound is distinctly fused within cutting edge EDM, Cinematic and Experimental productions. It is without hesitation that BENSONNS' compositions explore how music is the catalyst of connectivity between individuals, symbolic of boundaries being pushed within a sound that is both deeply reflective and progressive, whilst leaving unanswered questions within his convergent soundscape.
