Distillation Troubleshooting

A two day seminar plus an additional third day extension which will address many of the most frequently asked questions in distillation troubleshooting practice. The list of topics on the program has been carefully selected and is aimed at the practising engineer. This is an IChemE-sponsored course.

Who Should Attend

This down-to-earth program has been especially developed for engineering and supervisory personnel who are involved in operating, designing, troubleshooting and start-up of distillation processes and equipment.

Attendees will find this seminar an excellent opportunity to develop a working knowledge of key distillation troubleshooting techniques that can promote good column operation and reduce distillation cost.

At this seminar you will learn how to...
  • Troubleshoot a distillation column and determine what may cause poor performance.
  • Gain much more invaluable information from key diagnostic techniques (eg. gamma scans, temperature surveys) than they usually provide.
  • Identify the constraints that restrict column capacity and reduce its efficiency.
  • Identify and cure the most common malfunctions that bottleneck towers.
  • Avoid common causes of tray damage, premature capacity bottlenecks, packed tower distributor malfunctions, downcomer sealing problems and many other operating difficulties.
  • Control and operate a distillation column.
  • Validate your tower simulation.

A second course of one day duration, 'Refinery Distillation Extension' will follow on 22 March, and will concentrate on distillation for refinery staff. Information on this course follows.
