Centre for Geotechnical Research

The Centre for Geotechnical Research (CGR) was established within the University of Sydney in 1987 and its primary aim was furthering knowledge in the theory and application of geomechanics and geotechnical engineering. Since its inception, strong links have been established with industry and industry support has been very important in achieving the Centre's goals.

The main discipline covered by the CGR is geotechnical engineering but overlap occurs into related areas, and in recent years that has been mainly in earth sciences. The research of the CGR is multi-disciplinary, and includes soil mechanics, rock mechanics, foundation engineering, marine geotechnics, environmental geotechincs and engineering geology.
