Roderick Distinguished Lecture Series

Jack William Roderick

When Professor Jack Roderick was building up the modern, post-war School of Civil Engineering, he saw the need to engage graduates and industry generally to build the resources of the School. Initially the Graduate Association raised funds for equipment in the new School buildings while in 1968, he established the Post-Graduate Civil Engineering Foundation to build the research capability of the School and develop a broad range of industry connections to augment the teaching and research programs. For 47 years the Civil Engineering Foundation has provided the opportunity for industry and the School to build partnerships which have helped it to deliver world-class education and research.
For many years, the Civil Engineering Foundation provided the opportunity for its Governor Members to present a lecture at the School of Civil Engineering. The primary objective of these 'Governors Lectures' was for leaders of industry to present to the engineers of tomorrow, the challenges and opportunities which they and their organisations faced and the role that civil engineering plays in their work environment.
Under the auspices of the Council for Civil Engineering Sydney, the Roderick Distinguished Lecture Series continues and expands that opportunity.
