Civil Engineering - Student Newsletter 12 October 2011
Information session slides
A PDF of the powerpoint slides from last week’s information session, covering thesis, honours, work experience & 4th year electives is attached.
Pre-enrolment for 2012
- You would have received updates from the Student Centre reminding you to pre-enrol now for your units in 2012.
- The CUSP website, http://cusp.sydney.edu.au/, can help you with your unit selections for 2012.
- You are obliged to re-enrol in any core units you failed in semester 1 or earlier year units you have not yet completed in preference to later year subjects. You may not “skip” a failed core unit for later years.
- You may wish to consider Summer School options for MATH units and ENGG1802.
- You should pre-enrol for Semester 2 2012 on the assumption that you will pass all the units you are attempting this semester.
- It is in your interest to ensure you pre-enrol now (and re-enrol in any previously failed units). Students who have to re-enrol in person or late next year may experience delays (waiting to see Cynthia) and will have less opportunities to adjust their timetable in 2012.
Thesis/Project Pre-Enrolment for 2012
- All students should pre-enrol in “pass level project” in CIVL4024 & CIVL4025 when they pre-enrol in October 2011 for 2012.
- If you meet the pre-reqs for honours thesis (ISWAM > 65) after your Semester 2 2011 exams, Cynthia will update your enrolment in early 2012 for honours thesis.
Thesis/Project Presentations for Civil Engineering Students
You are invited to attend presentations next week for our final year undergraduates. The presentations represent the culmination of their 4 or 5 years study towards becoming professional engineers. We encourage you to attend so that you can learn about the type of projects that you could be doing for your thesis. The research thesis in final year represents approximately 20% of the contribution towards honours calculation for most undergrad students, so take the opportunity to gauge the quality of work presented this year.
Times and locations are listed below and a detailed program listing all the topics is attached.
