C A Hawkins Computer Laboratory - Access Rules

Authorised Users:

The Hawkins Computer Laboratory is for the use of undergraduates enrolled in 3rd year & 4th year units of study, postgraduates and staff of the School of Civil Engineering. 1st and 2nd year students should use the University Computer Access Centres, which are located in the Engineering Link Building, Carslaw Building (24 hours access available), Fisher Library and the Education Building. Please see http://itassist.usyd.edu.au/student/services/labs/index.shtml for more details.

Unauthorised users will be asked to leave immediately. Students who permit unauthorised persons to use these facilities may have their access rights removed.

General Opening Times and Access Arrangements:

The Hawkins Lab will be open from 8 am to 6 pm weekdays during semester. A PIN will be required for entry during these times. An access card will not be required. Your lecturer will advise you of the PIN to enter the Hawkins Lab during business hours. The lab will not be staffed at all times.

After Hours Opening Times
The Hawkins Lab is available for after hours access specifically for final year students for their thesis. Access cards will be required for after hours entry. The lab will not be staffed during after hours access periods. Access cards are deemed necessary to provide security for the equipment and to allow after hours access rights to students. Students with access cards are not permitted to give entry to non-authorised students after hours. Students should make themselves aware of the conditions of use and safety guidelines for access to the Hawkins Lab.

To obtain after hours access:

  • Students should ask the permission of their thesis supervisor. The supervisor is responsible for ensuring the students are aware of the safety conditions for after hours access.
  • The thesis supervisor should email the School Secretary (Maria Domadenik) the name, email and student number of the students permitted in Hawkins, plus the expiry date for the access (which should be no later than 30 November for a typical thesis student) stating the student has been permitted to have after hours access.
  • Maria will contact security and inform the student when he/she can go to security.
  • Student should go to security in the Services Building (Abercrombie St), and security will update the magnetic strip on the student card to allow access.
