Civil Engineering Foundation

The Civil Engineering Foundation provides the opportunity for industry and the School of Civil Engineering to build a partnership to deliver world-class education and research.

Since 1968, leaders of the engineering profession and a wide cross section of organisations providing civil engineering technologies and expertise have worked with the Civil Engineering Foundation to support the teaching and research activities of the School of Civil Engineering. In return, they have had preferred access to internationally recognised academics and research staff and outstanding students to build their future business.

The Civil Engineering Foundation is also part of the faculty industry network, Engineering Sydney, which provides the framework for enhanced interaction between the engineering disciplines within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies and the increasingly multi-disciplinary world of industry.

What are the objectives of the Civil Engineering Foundation?

The primary objective of the Foundation is to assist the Senate of the University of Sydney and the Vice-Chancellor on matters associated with under-graduate and post-graduate education and research in the field of civil engineering.

How are the objectives achieved?

The tasks of the Foundation are to provide a much needed channel for exchange of views and interaction of influences between the profession of the civil engineering industry and the School of Civil Engineering.

The Foundation also assists and advises in the conduct of research projects being carried out in the School. The Foundation fund raising complements the research projects by providing research scholarships, assisting with conferences, seminars and short courses involved in research and providing financial assistance to staff members and postgraduate students to attend overseas activities.

The Foundation is also instrumental in encouraging eminent speakers to attend the school to share their expertise with the postgraduate and teaching staff of the School.

Management of the Civil Engineering Foundation

The management of the Foundation is vested in the Foundation Council. The Council comprises of industry members who, dependant on their level of support of the Foundation, can be Governors or Members and ex-officio members from the University. The Council operates through an Executive Committee comprising of the Foundation President, Deputy President, Foundation Director, Deputy Director and the Foundation Officer. Each member of Council is appointed annually.
