Between 1988 & 1989 Brett was a part time attendant in the Civil Engineering Structures Laboratory, and became indentured as a Apprentice Fitter & Turner to the Faculty of Engineering between 1989-1992 principally employed by The Department of Civil Engineering. He completed a broad range of training that included T.I.G, M.I.G & Oxy acetylene Welding Practice, Hydraulic & Pneumatic Fitting, Advanced Machining & Advanced Fitting Operations and C.N.C Machining Practice. He was re employed as a Attendant in 1993 for twelve months until being appointed as a Mechanical Technician in 1994 working for the Structures Group, here he has continued to refine skills learnt as a Apprentice and learnt many new skills such as precision roofing material installation, Data Acquisition, Administrative Support skills, Manufacturing & Installation of Experiment Platforms, First Aid Officer duties, undertake inspections & compile O.H&S reports for the Zone 3 Engineering Faculty O.H&S Group
