Research project - Modeling Stakeholders’ behavioral approaches toward natural disasters in different infrastructure projects

Climate change is occurring, accompanied by significant changes in precipitation, temperature, and changes in the frequency and intensity of some extreme events. These changes will affect natural and human systems independently or in combination with other determinants to alter the productivity, diversity and functions of many ecosystems and livelihoods around the world.
Settlement on marginal or unstable land such as coastal areas, mountainous area, river basin and urban slums heightens their exposure to the impacts of climate hazards. Climate change impacts and vulnerability, therefore, threaten to exacerbate existing vulnerabilities and further entrench development disparities. (UNISDR, 2009)

My research will be at the junction of two areas: Natural disasters associated with climate changes and stakeholders’ response approaches. I will investigate stakeholders’ decision to choose different approaches to manage and control disasters which are associated with climate changes. I will develop mathematical models that specifically focus on testing the relationships between socio-economic and built-environment conditions on stakeholders’ decision to choose different disaster management approaches.
