Research project - Grain Crushing in large granular flow processes: Finite element analysis
Supervisor: A/Prof Itai Einav
Associate Supervisor: Dr Giang Nguyen
Breakage Mechanics is a continuum mechanics theory for modelling granular materials that enables to predict how grain-size distribution evolves in terms of energy arguments. This PhD will involve the integration of a breakage mechanics model with the Eulerian FE framework to analyze various large flow problems of brittle grains, including surrounding pile penetration, mining crushers, geophysics as well as other problems in food industry, and pharmaceutics.
