Services for Industry

The Centre for Wind, Waves and Water is an autonomous centre within the School of Civil Engineering. The mission of the Centre is to promote and support collaborative academic research and research sponsored by industrial partners in various fields of environmental resources.

The Centre also offers consultancy services for industry, government, and non-profit external partners:

Wind Engineering

  • Assessing loads on structures, pedestrian wind comfort and wind loads on buildings
  • Fa├žade pressure cladding measurements
  • Other wind-tunnel testing as requested.

Water Resources Management and Hydraulics

  • Reservoir modelling: short and long term dynamical models based on DYRESM, CAEDYM and Si3D, spanning from one-dimensional to three-dimensional models
  • Water quality forecasting and management: Modelling the performance of oxygenation and destratification systems including bubble plumes and submerged propellers etc and optimising the operation of these systems
  • Hydraulic modelling: Flume studies of hydraulic structures, design of road crossings, fishways, culverts; design of canals, aqueducts, pipe networks.

Sustainable Building Design

  • Assessing thermal performance of existing and new buildings and adaptation to climate change
  • Design for energy efficiency by incorporating passive solar thermal technologies such as solar chimney and water wall.

Ecohydrology and biogeochemistry

  • Surface and belowground hydrological modelling for urban and non-urban environments
  • Aquifer modelling
  • Contaminant transport and bio- and phyto-remediation
  • Ecosystem modelling
  • Computational biogeochemistry.
