Civil Engineering Lecture Room 1

Abstract

This presentation highlights the application of real time management of visual design information within a life cycle project management paradigm employing concurrent engineering/construction approaches. Teams, whose members are drawn from the respective participants in the project, will be convened at the outset to facilitate the evolution and broad design of the facility and its components. Their inputs are evaluated in real time against the life cycle objectives (such as equity internal rate of return, net worth or cost/worth ratio) using an advanced object-oriented system. The traditional responsibility for detailing and conformity to the relevant codes and standards will still reside with the relevant design professionals. The presenter will describe the fundamentals of design information management within the life cycle project management paradigm and concurrent engineering/construction approach. A visual design management system is also proposed emphasising on the use of computer technology and software development in this field.
