Seminar - Kitsana Manivong- Design and development of smart project information systems (SPMIS) for project life cycle management
Thursday, June 17, 1999, 10 - 11 am
Civil Engineering Lecture Room 1
Abstract
The SPMIS will not only integrate and automate the various facets of project management functions but also promote integrated approaches to project life cycle planning, smart and integrated evaluation of decisions, and feedback on risks and uncertainties impacting projects. The SPMIS will redesign and analyse the familiar quantitative information sets as well as modelling and evaluating the soft issues to guide project managers on appropriate courses of action. Another major feature of the SPMIS is the facility it will provide for experimentation with different design and implementation strategies or construction methods, in order to meet the project business objectives. Linked to the visualization module the system will act as the motherboard for proactive management of the entire project life cycle activities. The SPMIS concept is based on fundamental rethinking of project management processes and functions as well as research and case studies of major capital projects. Its ultimate goal is to facilitate the more efficient and cost-effective approaches to project delivery with savings of up to 30 to 40% on delivery times and out-turn costs. As such it should be of vital interest to industry.
