Abstract
An important problem in foundation engineering is that of predicting the behaviour of a foundation resting on a saturated clay. Especially, in certain types of clay ( soft clays or frozen soils ), creep settlements are very pronounced. A theoretical formulation and a numerical solution method are proposed for the problem of the time-dependent settlement of a viscoelastic soil material . Applying mathematical technic of Fourier transform and Laplace transform have presented great advantages to obtain solution of time dependent deformation directly at any time and reduce dramatically computer storage requirement by replacing calculation of three dimensional problems with two dimensional ones.
