Seminar - Gabriele Eccher - Finite Strip Method in Structural Analysis of Thin-Walled Structures containing Openings

Wednesday, September 28, 2005, 1.10 - 1.50 pm
Civil Engineering Lecture Theatre 3

Abstract

A brief introduction to desired application field of my research, i.e. thin-walled structures containing openings, will be given. The concept of the Finite Strip Method will then be presented highlighting its benefits and its limitations in the structural applications. Particular attention will be given to the Spline Finite Strip Method, i.e. the method adopted in my research.

A discussion about the ideas that lead to the choice of this particular numerical method will follow along with the listing of the challenges expected since the beginning.

The research plan developed will then be presented and the problems encountered will be highlighted. Some examples of the achievements will be given and the presentation will be concluded by briefly remarking the future steps of my research.
