Special presentation by our undergraduate Summer Scholars.
Abstract:
From the soils we found our buildings on, to the coffee beans we so heavily rely on to get us through the day, granular materials are ubiquitous throughout the natural world. Their role in man-made processes such as pharmaceutical manufacturing and mineral processing only adds to the importance of quantitatively characterising the behaviour of granular materials.
The aim of this work is to examine the propagation of forces through granular mixtures when subjected to uniaxial load, using both numerical and experimental techniques.
