Abstract:
The project that I was working on used the freeware "GeoPIV" a program that was developed to monitor the movement in soils and has also been applied in fluids. The aim of the project was to use images taken of a beam progressively loaded, and then use the program to find displacements and strain.
I spent half of my time developing the script that would calculate the displacements and strains in a simply supported beam that was point loaded at the centre. The second half was then used to develop a method that could be generally applied to structural applications so that any situation could be set up and thus take accurate displacements and strains.
