Welcome to the Web Site for the Sydney University School of Electrical and Information Engineering.

The start of a new academic year finds our School poised as never before to make contributions in education, research training and research of the highest societal relevance.

Today we offer Bachelor of Engineering degrees in Electrical and Software Engineering. Electrical Engineering is our generalist degree and within this degree the students can opt for four specializations: Biomedical, Power, Telecommunications, and Computer Engineering.

This is an exciting time in Electrical and Information Engineering, as the nation turns to its top educational and research institutions for guidance about energy, environment, aging population and technology paradigm shifts. Electrical and information engineering disciplines provide solutions to the most critical problems facing the world today.

Power engineers build renewable sources of energy and integrate them into smart grids, thus reducing gas emissions and preserving the environment.

Telecommunication engineers build telecommunication networks, such as the proposed National Broadband Network in Australia, capable of delivering advanced web, entertainment and health services to homes.

Biomedical engineers build medical electronic products and systems, including hearing aids, bionic eyes and automated software to help doctors diagnose diseases.

Computer engineers design, build and test intelligent machines, such as iPads, mobile phones, smart cars and homes. They integrate sensors and intelligent devices into global and interactive networks for monitoring environment, traffic and industrial processes.

Software engineers design software and information technologies for cost-effective and energy-efficient organisations, social networking and instant messaging.

In the face of a shortage of engineering skills and phenomenal growth of power, telecommunication and bioelectronics technologies, electrical engineers of all specializations are in high demand.

There are many exciting things happening at the School that I could write about.  However, you might prefer to get first hand insight by browsing these web pages for further details about our academic programs, staff and their research projects. We hope you find information that you are looking for and feel free to contact any of us.
