Dr Kumudu Munasinghe holds a PhD degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the School of Electrical and Information Engineering at the University of Sydney, Australia. He is currently appointed as a Lecturer at the same, where he also holds the prestigious APD Fellowship (awarded by the Australian Research Council). His research focuses on next generation mobile networks (Wi-Fi, WiMAX, 3G/4G Cellular, etc.), bio and eco inspired networking technologies, sustainable networks, resource management, smart grid communications, and green communication networks.
Dr. Munasinghe's most significant research contributions were made in the fields of interworked heterogeneous mobile networks, green communication networks, and eco-inspired resource management techniques. He has also made significant research contributions in the design and development of novel architectures for wireless mesh, ad-hoc and sensor networks.
Dr. Munasinghe has been successful in receiving over $ 300,000 through national and international competitive grants and awards. He has also received several prestigious awards and honours acknowledging his research excellence. As evidence of scholarly activities to date, he has over 50 refereed publications (accepted and published) to his credit. According Google Scholar, he has achieved over 175 citations (H-index 7).
Dr. Munasinghe currently co-supervises several PhD students and acts as the research report coordinator for the school, student councillor for the USYD IEEE Student Branch and a Member of the Industry Review Panel for Telecommunications Engineering Degree for the School of EIE. Dr. Munasinghe has voluntarily undertaken TPC Chairing responsibilities such as the Local Organizations Chair for WCNC10, Student Travel Grant Chair for PIMRC12, and a TPC Track Chair for VTCSpring'13. He also actively involved as a TPC member for a number of IEEE’s flagship conferences such as: ICC, GLOBECOM, WCNC, PIMRC, and VTC. He also acts as a technical reviewer/assessor for the Australian Research Council (ARC), several prestigious international journals such as the IEEE Wireless Communications, IEEE Communications Magazine, ETRI Journal, IEEE Transactions in Wireless Communications, and IEEE Transactions in Vehicular Technology. He is currently a Member of the IEEE and a Member of the ACS.
