IT Helpdesk Support
For all IT requests, incidents or problems:
- Call (02) 9351 6000; or

Email ict.helpdesk@sydney.edu.au
- use your university email account
- provide as much information as possible including, student name, SID, Exchange or Sydney Mail address, location, yellow PC Asset ID (if available); or

Students can receive help from ICT staff by visiting one of the Access Labs. A map of the Access Labs is available here; or

Postgraduates by Research can use the ICT Self Service Portal to log and review ICT help requests online.
In the school laboratories
- your first person to contact is the lab supervisor/officer;

Computer Procurement
Please follow this procedure to obtain and setup a computer:
- Discuss your computing needs, hardware and software, with your supervisor;
- To get full hardware support from ICT, the desktop or laptop equipment need to be
- purchased/leased through a University of Sydney preferred supplier; or
- is owned or leased by the School or unit who are covered by an ICT Servcie Agreement.
- Use your Unikey to login to How to get a computer website and browse the list of preferred supplier Desktop/laptops on the site;
- You can liaise with the Vendor Manager to obtain quotes on any other equipmen or different configurations.
- School IT Operations Manager can provide IT advice before and after you obtained the quotations.
- Email your quote and any queries to IT Operations Manager.
- Once the PC is delivered please call ICT Helpdesk with the list of software to be installed. You can download and install software yourself from the University and School subscriptions.
- If the computer is delivered to EIE Main Office please ask the School Technial Assistant to bring it to your desk.

Software Available
- University software packages to be used on university owned/leased equipment and downloadable from within the University network.
- Microsoft Software available under the CAUDIT agreement can also be installed on staff owned or leased machines under the "Work at Home" provisions of the Agreement. Software packages included: Adobe, Antivirus, Endnote, Microsoft, Statistics packages, Matlab, RedHat, VMWare, reference manager and many more.

The School MSDN Academic Alliance subscription that allows staff to install Microsoft resources such as Visual Studio, Expression Web, Windows Vista, SQL Server, Windows Server and more on their office and home machines / laptops for free. To register, please use your Unikey and your University supplied email address (i.e. the one that ends in sydney.edu.au) to create your account.
Email, Calendaring & Room Booking
Upon enrolment all students receive the official University email account that comes in the format yourUniKey@uni.sydney.edu.au
As a postgraduate by research student, listed on the School Phone Directory, you are entitled to a staff MCS Exchange account in the format name.surname@sydney.edu.au
Advantages of the MCS Exchange account include but are not limted to:
- staff email address beneficial for your research publications and career opportunities;
- access to the University Global Address List (GAL);
- access to school distribution lists including: _EIE all staff and _EIE Postgraduates;
- access to Exchange calendaring system to organise meetings and appointments;
- access to School resource/room booking
To request an MCS Exchange account do the following:
- Log a request via one of the ICT helpdesk channels
- Indicate your Location, UniKey, Phone, Email and position in the school (postgraduate by research)
- When you receive your account email Admin Office or IT Operations Manager and ask to be added to the School Distribution Lists.
- If you don't receive your exchange email account or if it's not working please email IT Operations Manager and indicate your ticket number.
PC Accounts in the School Labs
All enrolled students will automatically have access to the PCs in EIE labs within 24 hours of completing enrolment. To login to our Computing equipment in the labs all you need is your UniKey credentials.
If you cannot login in our labs with your UniKey login and password please do the following:
- make sure your enrolment is completed and, if that is the case
- call or log a request with ICT helpdesk
- mention your Name, UniKey, Email, position in the school and reason of your request (for tutoring, lecturing, research, etc)
- your account would normally be created in 1-2 days
- if you have no response or the account does not work as expected email IT Operations Manager and include the ticket number.
