Enrolment Structure

The structure of a full-time Honours year is as follows: (If you wish to undertake part-time Honours, you need special permission from the Dean; consult the Honours Director about this.)

  • 18cp towards a research thesis: made up of the 6cp unit INFO4991 IT Research Thesis A, together with its corequisite 12cp unit, INFO4992 IT Research Thesis B. These units will be recorded as Satisfactory/Not Satisfactory.
  • 6cp from INFO5993 IT Research Methods
  • 24cp of coursework, of which at least 18cp must be 5000-level (6cp may be from 3000-level units): The units of study to be offered are closely aligned with the research groups within the School, and are taught with involvement of several staff members from the relevant group.
  • the zero credit point unit INFO4999 will be used for the overall Honours result, based on coursework and on the thesis, as decided by the Faculty Honours Examiners' Meeting (on recommendation of the School Honours Examiners' Meeting).

Full-time Honours Students

A typical enrolment arrangement for a full-time Honours student would be:

Semester 1 Semester 2

- 3 coursework units
- INFO5993

- 1 coursework unit
- INFO4991
- INFO4992
- INFO4999

We advise students against mid-year entry to full-time Honours; deferring study for 6 months or enrolling in Honours part-time is far wiser.
