Pub/Sub for context aware systems
Publish/subscribe systems that push messages to subscribers that are "interested" in messages are essential for new media services (twitter etc). This project investigates several aspects of pub/sub systems: the subscription language is often as simple as a string match and rarely more sophisticated than regular expressions, a more sophisticated language that is efficient and flexible would help subscribers refine searches for relevant content; in order to handle large numbers of subscribers the system needs to be scalable, this can only be achieved through a parallel/distributed system.

Context and User Modelling Framework in the Cloud
Co-Supervisor: Judy Kay

The Personis framework is a distributed system for context and user modelling. This project involves investigating the use of cloud computing for Personis. Systems such as Amazon EC3/S3, Google Apps etc offer on-demand initiation of services. In this project you will port Personis to these services and evaluate their effectiveness.

Skills: Solid technical skills required.
