Bachelor of IT / Bachelor of Science (BIT/BSc)

In this combined degree, students will be working towards two degrees. This normally takes seven years; by combining the degrees students will be able to complete the requirements for both in five years.

Overview

The IT/Science combined degree provides students with a structured program of study in Information Technology and Science. There is natural synergy between information technology and science: all Science areas involve using information technology and many Science graduates work in information technology. With this in mind, all students in this 5-year degree program undertake core units in areas including computer science, information systems, and selected Science areas such as mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, geography or psychology.

Career opportunities

The proposed degree will produce graduates who can meet a strong need from industry, for employees who have both extensive technical understanding of IT and essential skills in one or two Science areas. There is a high demand for people with this combination of skills. BIT/BSc graduates can ideally look forward to a wide range of career options in both IT and Science: research, consulting, analytics and technological solutions.

Assumed knowledge

HSC Mathematics or HSC Mathematics Extension 1. Other assumed knowledge depends on first year subjects selected.

Professional recognition

The BIT is accredited by the Australian Computer Society.
