Scholarships

Postgraduate Coursework Entry Scholarships

The School of Information Technologies at the University of Sydney will offer up to10 scholarships worth $5,000 each in 2012.

Terms and Conditions

  1. The Scholarship shall be open to all local and international applicants commencing in the Master of Information Technology (MIT) or the Master of Information Technology Management (MITM) degree in 2012. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit as indicated by the applicant’s performance in their undergraduate degree (and specifically in IT and IT-related subjects) and other tertiary-level studies and will not be available to students already enrolled.
  2. The Scholarship shall be tenable in the School of Information Technologies and shall not be transferable.
  3. The Scholarship shall be tenable for one year subject to the Scholarship recipient meeting all the obligations of the program, and subject to academic progress being deemed satisfactory by The University of Sydney. The Scholarship recipient is expected to achieve at least a high credit average in their first semester after receiving the scholarship.
  4. The Scholarship shall be valued at $5,000 for students enrolled full-time in the Master of IT or Master of IT Management program, commencing in either Semester 1 or Semester 2 of 2012, and will be paid in two instalments, after 31 March 2012, and 31 August 2012, subject to clause 3 above.
  5. In the event of a scholar leaving the program for any reason and not completing the MIT or the MITM, they may be required to pay back any monies received in the year of discontinuation.
  6. The Scholarship may be suspended or withdrawn should the Scholar fail to comply with any of the Terms and Conditions outlined above.

Selection

  • International and domestic applicants must have a firm offer for the Master of IT or Master of IT Management prior to application.
  • The application must be sent in at the time of or after acceptance of offer into the Master of IT or Master of IT Management, at the University of Sydney.
  • Applications are ranked according to academic achievement as presented in the application and supporting documentation.
  • Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application before the start of the semester.
  • Successful scholarship candidates must enrol in the Master of IT or Master of IT Management on a full-time basis, in either Semester 1 or Semester 2, 2012.

Please remember to:

  • Complete all sections of the application form using neat, legible writing.
  • Make sure your contact details for the November-February period are correct.
  • Attach documents and form using paperclips. Please do not use staples, binders, folders or plastic sleeves.
  • Please retain a photocopy of your application for your records.

Half-fee scholarships

There is also a limited number of one semester half-fee scholarships, which are available each semester to students commencing their final semester of study in the Master of Information Technology and the Master of IT Management programs. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit in the previous semester of full-time study, and provide a 50% tuition fee waiver for one semester.

Prizes

Research-path students have the opportunity to win prizes at the annual Engineering Sydney Research Conversazione event.

The Research Conversazione is an annual showcase of the current research activities and best student projects in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies, and projects are judged by professionals from participating IT companies.

Postgraduate IT Placement Project Scholarship (PIPPS)

PIPPS scholarships are available to eligible enrolled students. Scholarship holders are placed with an industry partner for approximately six months. During this period they complete a research project/thesis which is related to their industrial placement. PIPPS students are jointly supervised by the school and in the workplace. The internship is a full-time commitment of approximately six months, and students receive credit for their participation. At the completion of the internship students must present their work for assessment.
