Microsoft Research Asia Scholarship in IT
Established in 2005 by a donation from Microsoft Research Asia. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage excellence in the field of information technology. The scholarship shall be awarded under the following conditions:
- The name of the scholarship will be Microsoft Research Asia Scholarship.
- The scholarship is open to all students enrolling in the:
Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology;
Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology (Adv); or
Bachelor of Information Technology. - The scholarship may not be deferred.
- The scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of academic achievement, with consideration given to personal characteristics (such as leadership, self-motivation and communication skills) and performance at an interview.
- The scholarship holder shall be required, if selected, to take part in an industry placement at Microsoft Research Asia, Beijing.
- The scholarship shall be awarded on the recommendation of a selection committee consisting of the Head of the School of Information Technologies, a representative from Microsoft Australia (or their nominee) and members of the academic staff who shall be appointed by the Head of School of Information Technologies.
- The scholarship holder shall receive a maximum of $5,000 each year for a maximum of four years of study (including the honours year), provided the holder achieves a credit average for courses which constitute a full-time enrolment in each year.
- The scholarship holder will be required to participate in publicity events arranged by Microsoft and/or the University of Sydney.
- The scholarship may not be awarded to an applicant who is in receipt of another award of equal or higher value.
Applications close 2 December 2011. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview at the School of IT, University of Sydney; interviews will be held in December 2011.
