University Rankings and Alliances

Regardless of which international university ranking scheme you choose, the University of Sydney is listed as a leading world university.

In their annual Academic Ranking of World Universities, the Institute of Higher Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University ranked the University of Sydney the top university in NSW, and amongst the top 10 universities in the Asia Pacific Region.

In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2010, the University of Sydney was listed in the Top 50 Universities for Engineering and Technology as well as in the list of the Top 200 World Universities.

In the QS World University Rankings for 2011, the University of Sydney was ranked 3rd in the list of Australia's top engineering and computer science universities and 38th in the world for computer science and information systems.

The Faculty of Engineering and IT at the University of Sydney was named by Shanghai Jiao Tong in its list of Top 100 world universities in Engineering/Technology and Computer Sciences in 2010.

The Academic Consortium 21 (AC21)
The University of Sydney is part of the AC21, an international network comprised of educational, research and industrial organizations, established to encourage advancement of global cooperation to the benefit of higher education.

The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU)
APRU is a consortium of 37 leading research universities in the Pacific Rim, of which the University of Sydney is one. APRU aims to foster education, research and enterprise thereby contributing to the economic, scientific and cultural advancement in the Pacific Rim.

Group of Eight (Go8)
The University of Sydney is part of the Go8, a coalition of leading Australian universities with a research intensive and research-driven education focus. The Go8 exists to enhance the contribution of its member universities to the nation’s social, economic, cultural and environmental well-being and prosperity.

Worldwide Universities Network (WUN)
The University of Sydney is a member of WUN, a partnership of 16 research-led universities from Europe, North America, South East Asia and Australia. WUN exists to make significant advances in knowledge and understanding in areas of current global concern.
