Tata Consultancy Services Undergraduate Scholarship
The Tata Consultancy Services Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded to a student who is from a disadvantaged background and:
- is an Australian Citizen, or holds a Permanent Humanitarian Visa;
- is currently enrolled at the University of Sydney as a Commonwealth-supported student in the Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology, Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology (Advanced) or the Bachelor of Information Technology
- is in receipt of a means-tested Commonwealth income support payment (such as Austudy, ABSTUDY, Youth Allowance, etc.), or can demonstrate low socio-economic status on the basis of a comprehensive financial assessment.
Up to 2 scholarships will be awarded.
Applications close Friday 9 December 2011. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview at the School of IT, University of Sydney; interviews will be held in December 2011.

Conditions of scholarship
| 1. | The Tata Consultancy Services Undergraduate Scholarship is valued at AUD$5,500 p.a., tenable for a maximum of 4 years (i.e. duration of the 3-year Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology or Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology (Advanced) degree plus an additional 1 year for Honours; or 4 years for the Bachelor of IT degree). Students enrolled in combined degrees are not eligible. | |
| 2. | Two scholarships will be available to the eligible students from University of Sydney. | |
| 3. | The TCS Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded to students who: | |
| - | have just completed Year 12 or equivalent at a school on the NSW Priorities Schools list; | |
| - | are Australian Citizens, or who hold a Permanent Humanitarian Visa; | |
| - | are currently enrolled at the University of Sydney as a Commonwealth-supported student in the Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology, Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology (Advanced) or the Bachelor of Information Technology and fulfill the requirements as identified. | |
| 4. | Continuation of the Scholarship each year is dependant on the recipient maintaining a satisfactory academic record, with an average mark of at least 50 (this is a pass average). If a recipient decides to study for an Honours year, and the maximum duration of the Scholarship has not already been reached, the Scholarship will be extended for that year. | |
| 5. | Scholarship recipients must enrol full-time during the tenure of their scholarship. Requests to hold the scholarship part-time will only be approved under exceptional circumstances such as a medical condition which limits the student's capacity to undertake full-time study. Such requests must be made directly to Tata Consultancy Services, via the School. | |
| 6. | Scholars are selected by interview by the University and in addition to the specific criteria applied for the individual scholarship, the following criteria include: | |
| - | Commitment to the university and a career in IT | |
| - | Leadership ability | |
| - | Strong communication skills | |
| - | Creativity and problem solving | |
| - | Community involvement | |
| 7. | The Tata Consultancy Services Undergraduate Scholarship will be paid in two equal instalments during the year. The first after 31 March, with the second paid after 31 August. The University will require recipients to provide documentary evidence that they are still eligible for the scholarship before paying any instalment, as set out by the respective scholarship offices. | |
| 8. | The scholarship shall be terminated if the recipient: | |
| - | reaches the maximum duration of the Scholarship; | |
| - | fails to maintain an average mark of 50 or above in the agreed degree program; | |
| - | enrols part-time without the prior approval from the University to hold the scholarship part-time; | |
| - | suspends from study for any period of time without the prior approval from the University to suspend; | |
| - | commits serious misconduct; | |
| - | withdraws completely from the agreed degree program; or | |
| - | becomes ineligible as defined by these conditions due to a change in circumstances. | |
