The Scamseek Project - Identifying Financial Scams on the Internet
Speaker: Jon Patrick
University of Sydney
Time: 06. April 2005, 2-3pm
Location: Sydney Uni, Madsen Building, room G92
ABSTRACT:
The Scamseek project had the principal objective of building an industrially
viable system that retrieves potential scam candidate texts from the Internet
and classifies them as to their potential risk of containing an illegal
investment proposal or advice. The value of the system is the gain of
significant time and efficiency savings for the human analyst. The project was
developed in two stages over 15 months and produced multiple classifiers for
different types of data, achieved higher than expected performance statistics .....

------------------------------- ***** -------------------------------
BACKGROUND
----------
Software is playing an increasingly important role in our day-to-day
life. Unfortunately, software systems often fail to deliver according
to promises. It is well known that there are still unresolved errors
in many of the software systems that we are using every day.
The aim of the QSIC series of conferences is to provide a forum to
bring together researchers and practitioners working on improving the .....

Agent-based approaches to systems development are becoming increasingly
popular. The agent paradigm finds application in all stages of software
development, ranging from agent-oriented conceptual modeling and
requirements elicitation, through specification, design, implementation,
testing and maintenance. The rise in the popularity of agent-based
approaches coincided
with the advent of the web, and was, in part, driven by it. Web
applications helped emphasize the value proposition of agent-based
software and strong synergy has existed between web engineering and
agent-based approaches ever since.
At this time, agent applications drive web search engines and underpin
the semantic web initiative. Large, complex, distributed applications .....

Mobility 2005 is the second conference to be held after the success of
the first conference in Singapore. This conference covers specifically
on mobile devices and mobile networks in Asia. This is a significant step
in the continuous effort to actively promote and accelerate both research
and applications of mobile devices and systems in this part of the world.
The conference will serve as a perfect venue for researchers, scientists,
engineers, and managers from Europe and North America to meet with their
Asian counterparts to understand mobile device & system related issues
faced here. We look forward to your participation at this coming event.
Mobility Conference 2005 is a three (3) day event comprising of invited
speaker for plenary sessions and technical presentations. All submissions
will be refereed by a selected peer review committee. Accepted work must
be presented by one of the authors. The conference abstracts will be
published and indexed in Inspec. Authors are invited to submit extended

DaimlerChrysler Research and Technology: Digital Engineering
Competence Center, Ulm, Germany.
I quote from the conference welcome page at
http://www.mty.itesm.mx/dia/centros/cidyt/1ifip-cai/Pagina/
The development of a new category of tools known as CAI
(Computer Aided Innovation) is growing as a response to a
higher industry demand. These new tools stand out from the
current CAD/CAE/CAM tools because they challenge the
previous standards.
The goal of these CAI tools is to assist designers and process
developers in their creative stage, expecting changes in .....

COMPUTATIONAL RESEARCH SUPPORT UNIT
UNIT MANAGER & 3 COMPUTATIONAL SCIENTISTS
Faculty of Science
UTS and its Faculty of Science are establishing a Computational
Research Support Unit in response to the rapidly evolving importance
of computation in the practice of modern science. The Unit will have
a staff of five and will provide a unified, comprehensive and expert
service to researchers. In addition to its internal role, supporting the
computational activities/needs of researchers within the University, the
Unit will be contributing to the programs of the Australian Partnership
for Advanced Computing (APAC)âthe national partnership established by
the Commonwealth to provide advanced computing and grid services to the
Australian research community.
At this exciting and formative time, there are four positions to be
filled: a Manager of the Unit, and three specialist programmersâone in
the area of data grids and the two primarily in application supportâwho
will be associated with the APAC programs.
