IVCNZ 2005

Final Call for Papers.

Image and Vision Computing New Zealand is New Zealand's premier
academic conference on all aspects of Computer Vision, Image
Processing, Visualisation and Computer Graphics.

In 2005, IVCNZ is being held in the beautiful city of Dunedin. Dunedin
is the gateway to the wonders of the South Island of New Zealand
including the rugged coastline, Central Otago, and the mountain
resorts of Queenstown and Wanaka. IVCNZ2005 is co-located with
Graphite 2005 and is running just prior to Graphite. This offers
participants a great opportunity to experience two quality conferences
in a fantastic location.

Submissions for original and unpublished research papers are invited
on topics including, but not limited to:

Augmented and Virtual Reality
Automated visual surveillance .....

OOPSLA Workshop on Agent-Oriented Methodologies CFP
  brian at it.uts.edu.au

Agent-Oriented Methodologies at OOPSLA 2005

Papers are invited for the OOPSLA 2005 Fourth International Workshop on
Agent-Oriented Methodologies. The workshop aims to share the research,
knowledge and experiences of different organizations in both the theoretical
and practical aspects of agent-oriented methodologies and processes for the
design and construction of agents and multi-agent systems. Agent
construction integrates both theory, pragmatic guidelines and tool support
and can benefit from the experiences of the object-oriented community.
Participation will be by submission of a position paper. Selection of these
papers for the workshop will be based on review by at least two members of
the workshop programme committee.

The main theme of the workshop this year is full lifecycle AO methodologies
in an industrial context. What are the appropriate processes by which an
agent-oriented software development can progress from requirements through
to production of the application? Other associated areas of interest are the
application of method engineering techniques to AO methodologies and
supporting tools for all stages of the AO lifecycle. The aim of the workshop
is to bring together practitioners and theory developers from both the
object-oriented and agent-oriented communities in order to support .....

OOPSLA Workshop on Method Engineering CFP
  brian at it.uts.edu.au

Method Engineering for Object-Oriented and Component-Based Development at
OOPSLA 2005

Papers are invited for the OOPSLA 2005 Third Workshop on Method Engineering
for Object-Oriented and Component-Based Development. The workshop aims to
share the knowledge and experiences of different organizations in both the
theoretical and practical aspects of constructing and tailoring
object-oriented and component-based development methods from method
components held (probably) in a repository. Method engineering integrates
theory, pragmatic guidelines and tool support. Participation will be by
submission of a position paper. Selection of these papers for the workshop
will be based on review by at least two members of the workshop programme
committee.

The main theme of the workshop this year is how to specify the interfaces of
method fragments. This is an important component of method construction. It
seems likely that the interface specification style will be dependent upon
the kind of method fragment e.g. task fragments will need a different
interface "glue" to technique or work product fragments. A secondary theme
will be the further development of last year's theme of method construction
from repository-held method fragments. Construction of consistent methods .....

Academic Positions and Scholarships

Position open for Post-Doc at University of Potsdam, Germany
  David Schlangen <das at ling.uni-potsdam.de>

One position open for an 'experienced researcher' in an EU-funded
dialogue project at the University of Potsdam, Germany.

The University of Potsdam invites applications for a position for
an ``Experienced Researcher'' -- i.e., someone with a PhD, or else
with 4 or more years of full-time, post-graduate research experience
-- to work on a 2-year, EU-funded project that aims to improve the way
spoken dialogue systems deal with understanding problems (their own,
and those of the human user).

The project will explore ways to combine statistical and symbolic
methods to detect understanding problems and to decide on strategies
for clarifying them. The successful candidate will work together with
one other experienced researcher who has a background more in
theoretical dialogue modelling; for the advertised position we are
searching for a candidate with a background more in speech processing.

The ideal candidate would have:
- knowledge of automatic speech recognition algorithms and
experience with existing implementations / packages
- experience with spoken dialogue systems .....
