Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems AAMAS06 Preliminary CFP
lbcao at it.uts.edu.au
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Fifth International Joint Conference on
AUTONOMOUS AGENTS AND MULTI-AGENT SYSTEMS
AAMAS-06
Hakodate, Japan
May 8--12, 2006
AAMAS-06 encourages the submission of theoretical, experimental,
methodological, and applications papers. Theory papers should make
clear the significance and relevance of their results to the AAMAS
community. Similarly, applied papers should make clear both their
scientific and technical contributions, and are expected to
demonstrate a thorough evaluation of their strengths and weaknesses in
practice. Papers that address isolated agent capabilities (for
example, planning or learning) are discouraged unless they are placed
in the overall context of autonomous agent architectures or
multiagent system organization and performance. A thorough evaluation
is considered an essential component of any submission. Authors are .....

Fourth International Symposium on
Foundations of Information and Knowledge Systems (FoIKS)
February 14-17, 2006 -- Budapest, Hungary
http://foiks.massey.ac.nz/foiks06/
The goal of the FoIKS symposia, which take place once every two years,
is to bring together researchers working on the theoretical foundations
of information and knowledge systems and to attract researchers working
in mathematical fields such as discrete mathematics, combinatorics,
logics and finite model theory who are interested in applying their
theories to research on database and knowledge base theory.
FoIKS took up the tradition of the conference series Mathematical
Fundamentals of Database Systems (MFDBS), which enabled East-West
collaboration in the field of database theory. Previous FoIKS symposia .....

cfp workshop in Tokyo on "Smart Environments and Their Applications to Cultural Heritage" with Ubicomp 2005
Tullio Salmon Cinotti
Ubicomp 2005
September 11-14, 2005 | Tokyo, Japan
The Seventh International Conference on Ubiquitous Computing
http://www.ubicomp.org/ubicomp2005/
Workshop:
"Smart Environments and Their Applications to Cultural Heritage"
Organizers: Nick Ryan (University of Kent), Tullio Salmon Cinotti
(Università di Bologna), Giuseppe Raffa (Università di Bologna)
Url: http://smart.arces.unibo.it/
Cultural and natural heritage applications have proved to be an
attractive vehicle for ubicomp researchers. Several projects have
developed data collection tools, museum or city visitor guides as a
means of demonstrating various concepts including location and context
awareness and smart building environments. Together, these represent two
ends of the 'production' process of bringing cultural and natural
heritage from the research environment to its consumers. The intermediate
analytical, archival and curatorial stages are less well represented,
but also provide considerable scope for ubicomp research. .....

PRELIMINARY CALL FOR PAPERS
As the data volumes continue to increase and the ways of information
dispersion across the globe continue to diversify, new scalable methods
and structures are needed for efficiently processing those distributed
and autonomous data. Grid computing, P2P technology, distributed
information retrieval technology, and networking technology all must be
merged to address the scalability concern. This forum focuses on this
key merged domain and looks for new integrated solutions for this
diversifying world of information.
Conference Scope:
Parallel Information Retrieval
Scalable Distributed Information Retrieval
Scalable Grid Information Systems
P2P Systems .....

PhD scholarships at UNSW in Mathematical Biology
"Miles Davenport" <m.davenport at unsw.edu.au>
The University of New South Wales is offering up to three APA supplements
for students with a strong undergraduate record to commence a PhD in
mathematical biology. Students with a background in mathematics, statistics,
computing or engineering are sought to work on projects aimed at
understanding the three major infectious diseases of our time - HIV,
malaria, and tuberculosis.
Two groups in the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Science are developing
models to understand both the dynamics of infection within infected
individuals, as well as the spread of infection through populations. The
groups work closely with a number of experimental collaborators to analyse
and model data. Current collaborations include investigation of HIV
vaccination trials in monkeys, malaria and influenza infection of mice, and
transmission of tuberculosis in humans. No prior experience in biology is
required - just strong quantitative background and a willingness to learn
new ideas.
Three supplements of $8000 p.a. to be held for up to three years are
available. Closing date for applications is 31 October 2005. .....
