USYD Basser Seminar, George Flanagin on "Doing Active Harm: Patterns of Process, Chaos, And Anti-Process in Business and Information Technology"
seminar at it.usyd.edu.au
Doing Active Harm: Patterns of Process, Chaos,
And Anti-Process in Business and Information Technology
Speaker: George Kelly Flanagin
Bright-Crayon, LLC
Time: 09. March 2005, 2-3pm
Location: Sydney Uni, Madsen Building, room G92
ABSTRACT:
"Chaos" in both Business and Technology is not the opposite of process
and forward movement. Chaos is a constructive neutrality between
actual process and ersatz process (i.e. antiprocess). As a result of
this new definition of chaos, even established processes must be under
constant review as to their usefulness.
Two questions are seminal to this discussion:
[1] How do we correctly identify dangerous anti-processes so that we .....

General Information
In the last few years, the Grid community has been growing very
rapidly and many new technologies and components have been proposed.
This, along with the growing popularity of web-based technologies,
and the availability of cheap commodity components is changing the
way we do computing and business. There are now many ongoing grid
projects with research and production-oriented goals.

Special Issue on Problem Solving Support in Intelligent Tutoring Systems
Technology, Instruction, Cognition and Learning (TICL)
An international, interdisciplinary journal published by OCP Science
Publishers
BACKGROUND:
Intelligent tutoring systems have been proven to provide significant
learning gains for students in a variety of instructional domains. As one
of the main goals of ITSs is to support acquisition of problem-solving
skills, it is not surprising that researchers devote considerable effort
to problem solving support. Existing ITSs are based on various theories
of learning, and consequently employ different strategies for supporting
problems solving. Some ITSs provide examples of solved problems to
students, which support analogical reasoning and transfer to novel
problems. One of the most common ways of supporting problem solving is
to analyse studentsâ actions, and provide adequate feedback. Although
many ITSs provide feedback, there are numerous differences in how that is
done, ranging from the timing of feedback (immediate vs delayed), level
of abstraction and detail in feedback messages, selecting appropriate
messages, phrasing feedback etc. Additionally, many ITSs provide .....

AGENT-BASED SYSTEMS FOR HUMAN LEARNING (ABSHL) WORKSHOP
***** CALL FOR PAPERS *****
http://agents.cs.columbia.edu/abshl
Agent-Based Systems for Human Learning (ABSHL) is a new workshop which
will be held at the AAMAS-05 conference on July 25 or 26, 2005 in
Utrecht, The Netherlands.
OVERVIEW
The aim of the Agent-Based Systems for Human Learning (ABSHL) workshop
is to bring together researchers from two historically separate
agent-related theoretical and applied communities. By "theoretical",
we refer to those, typically computer scientists, who have been
involved in the Autonomous Agents, ATAL, ICMAS, AIED and similar
communities. By "applied", we refer to those, typically researchers
outside computer science with a focus on human learning, such as
education, training, intructional technologies and human-computer
interaction -- i.e., folks who have been involved in the AGENTS, AERA, .....
