Australian International and Local Conference Announcements

1st Int. Workshop on Integrating AI and Data Mining (AIDM 2006)
  leong at deakin.edu.au

In recent years, we are witnessing an increasing number of applications
that combine AI and data mining to deliver sophisticated intelligent
systems. While the two disciplines have been strongly correlated,
either in research or application, there have never been a time where
such level of convergence exists within a single system. The objective
of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioneers in
either or both disciplines to present their work and discuss the future
development of this research direction.

Introduction
============
The universe is a big system of systems. It has for example, ecological
systems, social systems, commodity and stock market, etc. These systems
are complex and constantly adapting to their environment. Many of these
systems are essential to the very existence of human beings. They cannot
be fully understood by isolating their components or applying simple cause
and effect reasoning due to the complexity and intensive interactions
among these components. These systems can be examined by looking for
patterns within their behaviour. The Complex Adaptive Systems (CAS) .....

CFP: Expert Systems Journal Special Issue on Ontologies
  mehmet at comp.mq.edu.au

CALL FOR PAPERS

Expert Systems: The Journal of Knowledge Engineering
Special Issue on Advances in Ontologies

Expert Systems seeks original manuscripts for a Special Issue on
Advances in Ontologies scheduled to appear in late 2007.

The use of formal ontologies in knowledge systems has many advantages.
It allows for an unambiguous specification of the structure of knowledge
in a domain, enables knowledge sharing and, as a result, makes it possible
to perform automated reasoning about ontologies. In recent years
there has been a worldwide increase in the use of ontologies, both in
industry and in research laboratories. This special issue of
Expert Systems on the theme of Advances in Ontologies is intended
to present the recent advances in ontology research and its applications
to a general audience, to provide an opportunity for the broader
Expert Systems community to become aware of recent ontology research.

The special issue will seek submissions of papers dealing with all
aspects of ontology research, including the theoretical foundations, .....
