Tutte wrote a paper in 1960 entitl ed "How to Draw a Graph". In the 50 odd years since then\, the motivation for creating visual representations of graphs has changed from mathematica l curiosity to visual analytics\, and many new methods have been proposed\ , tested\, implemented\, and found their way into commercial tools.This ta lk is a review of this history.\n\nSPEAKER’S BIOGRAPHY\n\nPeter Eades ob tained his PhD from ANU in 1978. From 2000 until 2010 he was Professor of Software Technology at the University of Sydney.\n\nPrevious to this\, he held positions at the University of Queensland\, the University of Newcast le and NICTA\, as well as visiting positions in Europe\, Japan\, the USA a nd Canada.
