DESCRIPTION:Title: Sensing\, Spectrum Handoff and Routing on Cognitive Radi
	o Networks\n\nSpeaker: Professor José F de Rezende\nUniversidade Federal
do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ)\n\nTime: Wednesday 8 February 2012\, 2-3pm\n\nAB
STRACT\n\nCognitive radios are a promising solution for the spectrum scarc
ity problem. These devices shall opportunistically use the spectrum left a
vailable by primary users without interfering with them. This task require
s that cognitive radios be able to collect information about the environme
nt that they operate\, and thus take decisions about when and how the spec
trum should be used. In this talk\, Professor Jose Rezende will present a
number of works that he has developed together with his research team conc
erning cognitive radios.\n\nSPEAKER’S BIOGRAPHY\n\nJose F de Rezende rec
eived the BSc and MSc degrees in Electronics Engineering from Universidade
Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 1988 and 1991\, respectively. He rec
eived the PhD degree in Computer Science from Universite Pierre et Marie C
urie in 1997\, where he was an associate researcher during that year. Sinc
e 1998 he has been an associate professor at UFRJ. His research interests
are in wireless and mobile networks\, distributed multimedia applications\
, and performance evaluation.\n\nLOCATION DETAILS:\n\nThe School of Inform
ation Technologies is located in the new School of IT Building (J12)\, 1 C
leveland Street at the eastern end of the Darlington campus of the Univers
ity of Sydney.\nMaps are available here (see coordinates L25/L26):\n	http:
