Michaelmas

September 29th is Michaelmas.

Before moving to a two semester year, the University of Sydney had three terms: Lent term, Trinity term and Michaelmas term. The academic terms at Oxford and Cambridge are named Michaelmas, Hilary (Oxford)/Lent (Cambridge) and Trinity.

Hence, somewhat quaintly, my first semester lecture notes are sometimes marked 'Lent' and second semester as 'Michaelmas' in memory of this erstwhile nomenclature.

None of this is examinable. :)
