Research Interests Past, Present and Future
Computer Human Adapted Interaction Research Group

Relational Information Visualization

- Relational information visualization is concerned with the presentation of abstract relational data, in a visual form.

- The essential idea in relational information visualization is that the user’s perceptual abilities are employed to understand and explore the relational structures.

- This work focused on developing efficient techniques for many aspects of drawing large amount of relational data.

Web Engineering: Liquid Miro

- A fragment based system for the creation, dynamic linking, user classification, link sorting and presentation of nodes of information across a range of client device types.

MERL: Human Guided Antenna Design

- Human experts typically specify and refine antenna designs by hand, using computers only to evaluate their candidate designs by simulation.

- Automatic approaches are often based on simplified design problems as the general task is often computationally intractable.

- This project focused on building a patented human-guided interactive design system.

- Using a multi-parametric visualization the user can explore the design space based on output metrics.

Pervasive Computing (Future)

- “The most profound technologies are those that disappear. They weave themselves into the fabric of everyday life until they are indistinguishable from it.”

- Vision: To allow people to use natural environments augmented with computational resources that provide information and services when and where desired.

Projects:

- Virtual and physical context aware smart meeting room

- Gesture based “Half-Pipe” information display

- Context aware multi-model personal assistant to act as augmented human memory

- Multi-user gesture based smart personal assistants

- Multi-user ad-hoc networking across and between Intelligent Environments

- Handheld displays as virtual windows on 3D models

- Dynamic UI generation from component announcement

- Adaptive user interfaces for virtual collaboration.

Other projects (Present and Future)

- Semantic softlinking for the smart Internet: A project to investigate the use of temporal ordered hyperlinks in a fixed hypermedia environment.

- JITT: A smart personal assistant for just in time training. Here we will use context awareness and learning workflows to ensure the timely and personalised delivery of workplace documentation.

- Constructive Computational Geometry: Based on the Art Gallery Theorem, can you take a set of classified images and dynamically construct a simple room based geometry where you can only see t images from any particular view point.
