Project Overview
Project SILK or Seamless Internet Life Komputing, is a research iniative in Pervasive Computing by the School of Information Technologies in the University of Sydney Australia. Currently the groups heading up research under this initative are the Smart Internet Technology Research Group, in the Networks and Systems laboratory and the Information Visualization Research Group, in the Visual Information Processing laboratory.

This research initative has drawn on seed funding for research equipment from the University of Sydney's large equipment grant scheme. Coupled with this equipment support from the University, the School has committed both space and the cost for an extensive renovation for both a Smart Meeting Room and a dedicated Pervasive Computing laboratory.

Sub-projects
The Smart Internet Technology Research Group currently has three projects under the Project SILK research initative.

  • Pelican Project is a joint University of Sydney, Australian National University and Griffith University, and Smart Internet Technology CRC research project on Context Aware computing aiming to research a context descriptor mechanisim for the Intelligent Environment - incorporating physical location, social location, user preferences, and multimedia devices.
Project Leader: Associate Professor Bob Kummerfeld
  • Project BlueStar is a joint University of Sydney, Telstra Research Laboratories and Smart Internet Technology CRC research project researching a privacy enhanced multi-granularity location-aware mapping and data delivery system. This project aim to address the need for a practical user-centric end-to-end location awareness solution.
    Project Leader: Dr. Aaron Quigley
  • Nightingale is a joint University of Sydney, National ICT Australia and the Smart Internet Technology CRC research project researching adaptive interfaces for aging in place through the use of a collaborative ubiquitous computing environments to support reminiscence activities. Nightingale seeks to address the social, purpose and intellectual fitness of people living in adapted physical and computational environments
    Project Leader: Dr. Aaron Quigley
