Some groups of users have disk limits imposed on their server file storage. User file systems are maintained on a number of Unix and Linux file servers in the School. The disk limits are managed by the use of a disk quota system on those servers
Users can interrogate their quotas on a Unix or Linux server with the
quota command.
The current limits are only imposed on user home directories hosted on servers in the ugrad domain.
- Undergraduate students
- The home directory disk limit for an undergraduate student is based on the units of study in which they are enrolled with the School. A uniform disk limit is applied to undergraduate mail spool files.
- Masters Coursework students
- A uniform home directory disk limit is imposed on all Masters coursework students.
Aside from limits imposed by the disk quota system, each file system on the SchoolServers has a fixed size, and users can find that the file system on which their home directory resides has run out of space. Such events are monitored by the system staff, who will take action to address problems caused by full file systems.
