Linux Samba Printing

1. log in to the computer under X as root

2. execute (run program)

redhat-config-printer

or … go to red-hat/System Settings/Printing

on the desktop menu

4. click the “Forward” button

5. Window labelled “Queue Name”

Example:

Name pr1-g70

Short description pr1 on itsmb

7. Window labelled “Queue type”

Under “Select a queue type:” pick list choose “Networked Windows (SMB)”

Then click the “Specify” button and in the Authentication window enter the following:

Workgroup: IT

Server: itsmb.it.usyd.edu.au

Share: pr<number>-<roomname>

e.g. pr1-g70

User name: your network UNIX account name

Password: your network UNIX password

9. Window labelled “Printer Model”

Click the pick list labelled “Generic (clic to select manufacturer” and choose manufacturer – in this case HP

Then choose the appropriate printer model – Laserjet 4050 in this case

Click the “Forward” button

Click the “Apply Button
