Configure Mac OS X Network Preferences

  1. under the header "Internet & Network" of the MacOsXsystemPreferences, click "Network"
  2. double-click onto the "Built-in Ethernet" interface
  3. click onto the "Ethernet" tab
  4. click onto the "TCP/IP" tab
    1. click the "Renew DHCP Lease" button and verify that the correct IP address gets assigned
    2. in the "DNS Servers" text field, enter 129.78.8.1 129.78.8.2 129.78.8.25 with each value on a single line
    3. in the "Search Domains" text field, enter "*.it.usyd.edu.au" "*.ug.it.usyd.edu.au" in two separate lines
  5. click the "Proxies" tab
    1. click on "Web Proxy (HTTP)" and make sure the checkbox next to it is checked
      1. in the "Web Proxy Server" text field, enter "www-cache.it.usyd.edu.au",
      2. and in the field after it (following the colon) the number 8000
    2. click onto "Automatic Proxy Configuration" and check the checkbox next to it
      • into the "Proxy Configuration File URL" text field, enter http://www.it.usyd.edu.au/proxy.pac
    3. check the checkbox labelled "Exclude simple hostnames"
    4. into the "Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains" text box, enter (separated by returns):
      • 127.0.0.1 localhost *.it.usyd.edu.au *.cs.usyd.edu.au
    5. make sure that the checkbox labelled "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)" is checked
  6. click the "Apply Now" button at the right bottom
  7. click "Show All" if you want to configure other settings, otherwise close the panel
