1. from the "Terminal" menu, choose "Preferences…"
   1. from the menu labelled "Declare terminal type ($TERM) as", choose "vt102"
   2. close the "Terminal Preferences" window by clicking onto the prominent red dot in the top left hand corner or one of the other known methods
2. from the "Terminal" menu, choose "Window Settings"
   1. under the header "When the shell exits", choose the radio button "Close only if the shell exited cleanly"
   2. click onto "Use Settings as Defaults"
   3. close the "Terminal Inspector" palette by clicking onto the spot in the upper left corner of the window that turns red when the mouse pointer moves over it
3. quit Terminal.app
