School of Information Technologies   Web Limits

All internet web accesses are required to go via the School's WebProxy. Access is forced through the WebProxy to allow for use of a large local web cache. The local cache is used to improve download performance of commonly accessed sites, and to reduce the download charges for the School.

Internet accesses, like more tangible resources such as paper, toner and disk drives, are paid for by the School. Every incoming packet incurs a charge, either as part of the School's network overheads, or directly at a variable rate per Mb, based on the source location of the packet.

The School imposes a web download limit on all browsing connections made from machines in the ugrad domain. All such connections require the user to authenticate against the proxy server with their ugrad login name and password.

There is a daily download quota imposed on each user connecting from ugrad machines.

Ugrad users can [WWW]check their web quota and usage, entering their login name for their ugrad ComputerAccounts.
