- double-click onto "My Network Places"
- double-click onto "Entire Network"
- click onto the "entire contents" link
- double-click "Microsoft Windows Network"
- double-click onto the relevant workgroup name (currently "IT" for non-ugrads, "BASSER-UGRAD" for ugrads)
- double-click onto the relevant server ("ITSMB" for "IT", "SMB_UG" for "BASSER-UGRAD")
- for each printer queue to be installed:
- right-click onto the queue name and choose "connect" (you can also select them all at once and then right-click -> connect)
- choose an appropriate PostScript printer driver (in most cases "HP LaserJet 4050 Series PS" would be appropriate"
- in "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Printers", right-click onto the printer queue icon and choose "Properties" (you can also select them all and then right-click -> Properties)
- click onto the "Device Settings" tab
- make sure that all paper sizes are set to "A4" (if they are not then you probably got the default locale wrong at the start of the Windows installation)
- set "Send CTRL-D After Each Job" to "No"
- if a duplex unit is installed and the current queue is not a "single-sided" one, set "Duplex Unit" to "Installed"
- click "Apply"
- click the "General" tab
- click on "Printing Preferences..."
- if duplex printing is to be enabled, click "Flip on Long Edge"
- click the "Advanced..." button
- make sure that all paper sizes are set to "A4" (if they are not then you probably got the default locale wrong at the start of the Windows installation)
- for "Print Quality: choose "Prores 1200"
- click the little "+" next to "PostScript Options"
- for "PostScript Output Option" choose "Optimize for Portability"
- click "OK"
- click "OK"
- click the "Advanced" tab
- click the "Printing Defaults..." button
- if duplex printing is to be enabled, click "Flip on Long Edge"
- click the "Advanced..." button
- make sure that all paper sizes are set to "A4" (if they are not then you probably got the default locale wrong at the start of the Windows installation)
- for "Print Quality: choose "Prores 1200"
- click the little "+" next to "PostScript Options"
- for "PostScript Output Option" choose "Optimize for Portability"
- click "OK"
- click "OK"
- click "OK"
