Honours and Master 12/18cp Project Titles: 

1. Multimedia Information Retrieval for web application

With the rapid increasing use of multimedia data such as audio, image and video, there is a strong demand for efficient techniques for their storage, browsing, indexing, and retrieval to exploit the full benefit of the explosive growth and application of multimedia data.  This project will study and design some techniques for the application of digital museum, entertainment, internet shopping, and medical image retrieval system.

2. Security for Electronic Commerce Systems

Design of Electronic Commerce System:  Class modelling, Object modelling, State modelling, Network design and transaction design.

Design of Secure Protocols:  Network layer, Transport layer and Application layer.

Design of Electronic Commerce Agents :  Offer service, interact with a community, embody business rules, interface to legacy system, provide transactional semantics.

Managing Security Risk:  Security analysis, Firewalls, virtual private network, securely design software and legislative frameworks.

3. Information hiding for multimedia system

Data hiding, a form of steganography, embeds data into digital media for the purpose of identification, annotation, and copyright.  Several constraints affect the process of the quality of data to be hidden, the need for invariance of these data under conditions where a “host” signal is subject to distortions, e.g. lossy compression, and the degree to which the data must be immune to interception, modification, or removal by a third party.  This project will investigate and design some data-hiding process and aim for three applications:  copyright protection, tamper-proofing, and augmentation data embedding.

 4. Integrating digital video into broadband networks

MPEG2- based digital video will be one of the most important services in the emerging ATM based B-ISDN network.  It can be used to realize various different kinds of multimedia service such as video conference, video on demand, and video email, etc.  The huge amount of data that is to be transported in order to include video into the networks will however require new technologies, both in video and the network environment.  This project will investigate how MPEG2-based digital video can be used efficiently in ATM based B-ISDN network.
