Thesis title: Granular Landslide Impacts on Obstacles

Thesis abstract:

This research presents an analysis of dense granular flow interactions with obstacles caused by landslides using the Material Point Method. Recent constitutive laws will be presented witin the framework of the simulations to accurately portray the complex nature of granular flow. A collection of on-site and laboratory experimentations will be conducted and evaluated qualitivively in accordance of existing experimental and numerical simulations from the literature. Optimization of obstacle geometry and material properties will be performed to evaluate efficiencies in landslide mitigation. Ultimately, this research will try to provide a numerical and experimental solution into analysing landslide behaviour and how to properly minimise the impact.
