Thesis title: Stability of built-up cold-formed steel beam

Thesis abstract:

Undertake fundamental experimental and numerical research on built-up cold-formed steel members to provide the profession and industry with a scientific basis for designing and optimising the strength of this new generation of structural section. (1)Study the shear flexibility of common types of discrete fasteners.(2) Derive expressions for the effective flexural, warping, torsional rigidities. (3) Model discrete fasteners in finite strip and spline finite strip elastic buckling programs.(4) Identify new types of buckling modes resulting from adding dicrete constraints in built-up section. (5) Incorporate built-up sections into the framework of the Direct Strength Method.
