Thesis title: PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF NETWORK LAYER SECURITY ATTACKS AGAINST RPL FOR INTERNET OF THINGS

Thesis abstract:

�div style="text-align: justify;"�The Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy�br /� Networks (RPL) is the standardized routing protocol for constrained�br /� environments such as 6LoWPAN networks, and is�br /� considered as the routing protocol of the Internet of Things (IoT).�br /� However, this protocol is subject to several attacks that have�br /� been analyzed on static case. Nevertheless, IoT will likely present�br /� dynamic and mobile applications. In this work, we introduce�br /� potential security threats on RPL, in particular Sybil attack when�br /� the Sybil nodes are mobile. In addition, let me present an analytical�br /� analysis and a discussion on how network performances can be�br /� affected. Under Sybil attack while nodes�br /� are mobile, the performances of RPL are highly affected�br /� compared to the static case. In fact, it has been noticed a decrease in�br /� the rate of packet delivery, and an increase in control messages�br /� overhead. As a result, energy consumption at constrained nodes�br /� increases. �/div�
