Thesis title: Microwave Photonic Signal Processing and Sensing

Thesis abstract:

Microwave photonics (MWP) brings together the worlds of radio-frequency engineering and optoelectronics, which provides the solutions for processing high bandwidth radio frequency and microwave signals. It has attracted significant interest in many different areas including communications, sensors, radar systems and defence applications. The use of photonic integrated circuit technology provides more possibilities for the development of MWP systems. It enhanced functionalities and flexibilities as well as reduction of size and weight for MWP applications, it is possible to implement all the photonic and electronic components into a single chip with CMOS-compatible technology. The high integratablity of the photonic circuit not only boosts the filtering, time delay and phase shifting functionalities, but also enables the sensing applications in the nano-scale range.
